i am planning to downsize my collection this spring because i need more space. do not think you have to have every loom that is available just because something you want to make is video-ed on that loom. when you want to branch out, then consider what kind of loom(s) would be best for you. practice the techniques and find out what kind of projects you can do/enjoy doing. the majority of the older videos on youtube use these looms. My advice is to have the knifty knitter round looms and a set of long looms to start off. both of them are well constructed and do not have stability/lost pegs issues. they can convert between 3/8 and 3/4 inch gauges, they can do double knitting and anything from socks to afghans. my favorite looms are the multi-knit loom and the build-a-looms by loops and threads. i have two adjustable cindwood looms that i use. the only problem is that i don't prefer the flex in the loom's body. you can add as many sets as you want to get the number of pegs you need, and you can fold them up for storage when you're not working. everyone is coming out with more adjustable looms. also, i had way more time to devote to one of my favorite crafts than i do now.īut things have changed in the last 2-3 years. i didn't have enough experience or ability to think outside the box to be able to make projects in youtube videos without having that specific loom. what i want to point out is that when i started loom knitting, the looms were a certain gauge and a certain number of pegs. and several others that were picked up from thrift stores, etc.īeleive me, i am not trying to brag. i had the martha stewart loom (which i threw away because it was unreliable)-i have replaced it with the loops and threads build-a-looms (much better!!!). from knitting board, i have the the flexee skinny and chunky looms, a multi-knit loom (with the new jumbo pegs), an all-in-one, a 28" loom, the sock loom 2, the rotating double-knit loom, and a 32 peg loom. the kb, loops and threads, and a cindwood infinity/afghan/'s' looms. gasp! how could i say that? i have the round set, long set and flower knifty knitter looms, three different kinds of spool looms, a zippy loom master set. In about 5 years, i have collected way too many looms. I'd love to get a Cindwood or Kiss loom but can't justify spending any more money when I'm not even using the ones I currently own. My Knifty Knitters are used more with chunky yarn and I haven't made a project since 2011 with it. On the Alimelt set, I did break a peg but I was able to fix it by drilling a hole and glue it in. I've never broke one, and I've heard customer service is pretty good for replacement. I think they can handle tighter stitches and are a little more flexible with the pegs. KB looms: Metal sock loom, His & Her sock loom, Baby loom set, 3/8" Fine loom set, 5/8" Chunky loom set, 18" AIO, Afghan loomĪlimelt 3/8" round set with rectangular loom Knifty Knitter round set and long rectangular loom. I have 3 projects started but it's been slow. I get motivation seeing all the patterns and beautiful projects created but get frustrated that it takes forever because I want instant gratification. I find it's a real love/ hate relationship. I've been looming on and off for about 15 years. Personally I don't think that I should have to invest more time and money just to make these looms usable, especially given what they cost. When I contacted customer service I was told to just sand it down and/or fill it with wood putty. One of the looms I received arrived cracked. I've had them pop out more than any other loom I've ever used. The yarn doesn't glide on the pegs the way it does with plastic pegs, and the peg heads themselves are rather large. ![]() I also find the pegs difficult to knit over. The rubber pegs are held in (not well) with wood glue and looks quite sloppy. The wood composite that they're made from is very heavy and creates a sensation in my hands like hot, prickly needles (I might be allergic?). The quality (or lack thereof) isn't worth the price. So many people in the community act like the sun rises and sets on these looms, so I was surprised with my experiences both with the looms and the customer service.
